Help for Stuttering is as Close as Your Library

Thanks to generous donors, the Stuttering Foundation has donated books and DVDs to libraries across the country, including the Pendleton County Public Library.

Stuttering Foundation books are directed to parents of children who stutter, adults who stutter, speech pathologists, pediatricians, family physicians, nurses, health care professionals, hospitals, schools, clinics, day-care centers, and all those concerned with the problem of stuttering.  The DVDs feature some of the world’s leading therapists
with children who stutter.  Since the original publication, Foundation materials have reached millions of individuals worldwide.

More than three million Americans stutter, yet stuttering remains misunderstood by most people,” said Jane Fraser, president of The Stuttering Foundation. “Myths such as believing people who stutter are less intelligent or suffer from psychological problems still persist despite research refuting these erroneous beliefs.”

Sixteen books and DVDs produced by the 71-year-old nonprofit Stuttering Foundation are available free to any public library. The Foundation has provided free materials to over 20,000 public libraries nationwide.

We are dedicated to providing a welcoming, healthy, and safe environment for our customers and staff. Due to acknowledged health hazards arising from exposure to secondhand smoke, PCPL property will be designated as a smoke and tobacco free environment.

Starting March 1, the use of any smoke or tobacco product (including cigarettes, cigars, electronic cigarettes (vaporizers), smokeless tobacco products, etc.) is

prohibited by employees, customers, and vendors on all PCPL property (including buildings and structures, grounds, parking lot, sidewalks, and vehicles). However, smoke or tobacco products may be used within private vehicles that are parked at least 25 feet from the building. Customers who violate this policy may be asked to leave Library property.

PCPL’s policy is available at the library and pcplibrary.org. Contact PCPL for more information.

If a smoker is ready to quit, free resources include the Tobacco Quit Line at 1-800-QUIT-NOW and Freedom from Smoking at www.freedomfromsmoking.org

Notary Public Services Available

Did you know that your library offers notary services free of charge? Please call to confirm availability of notary. The notary is authorized to administer oaths and acknowledgements of documents. “An acknowledgement is a verification that the person whose signature appears on the document is the person who appears before you and whose identity you took reasonable steps to verify.” In other words, we are pretty much just verifying that the person is who they say they are and then witnessing them sign a document. No legal advice or preparation and no notarizing of
anything other than a signature on a legal document. Please bring a current correct ID with you for identity verification.  The ID should
include the following: A photo of the bearer, accurate physical description, and Signature of the bearer. For example:  a driver’s license,
official state-issued ID card, military ID, passport, etc. And it MUST BE current. No expired identification will be accepted.
