KY 2020 Census
Over $675 billion in federal funds are redistributed every year across the US using Census data, and for every person not counted, Kentucky stands to lose $2,021 per year for ten years. We simply cannot afford to leave money on the table.
#2020Census data will help local government plan for the future and determine where the over $675 billion a year in federal funding goes, for medical services, WIC, child care, public schools, public transit, and low-income housing.
The Census Bureau will start the door-knocking phase of the 2020 Census on August 11 in Kentucky. You can respond online, by phone, or by mail if you haven’t already done so for 3 reasons:
1. Self-response data is most accurate
2. It costs the government a LOT of money to send people door-to-door
3. Due to the current pandemic, you may be wary of answering the door
You still have time to answer the #2020Census before @uscensusbureau comes knocking on doors in August! Self-respond today online (2020census.gov), by phone (844-330-2020), or mail. #CountMeInKY
There’s power in numbers and we need all the strength we can get behind the #2020Census. Our voices are stronger together and when folks are counted, our demands for real change will be heard.
The #2020Census is a tool. Use it. Claim your share of federal funds, political power & representation, and strengthen your community today!

Children’s and Teen Programming Returns
Miss Tonya, our Children’s and Families Representative, took August off to prepare for our upcoming fall programs. She has been working to amaze and entertain everyone. All fall programs will begin again in September. See you at the Library!
Thank you!
Thank you for supporting the Pendleton County Public Library’s Summer Reading program!! It is wonderful to watch our community get so excited about reading and all of the programs and prizes you helped us offer!
This year, 245 kids (age birth – 5th grade) signed up to participate. These kids read for 1,344 hours this summer! On average, 98 kids, parents, and caregivers attended weekly programs (including the Living Arts and Science Center Planetarium and On the Move Art Studio) focusing around the theme “A Universe of Stories.”
We had 95 teens (grades 6th – 12th) sign up to participate. They read for a total of 744 hours! These teens participated in programs that unleashed their creativity (including Space Crafts and Planet Building) and expanded their minds (including a presentation with the Newport Aquarium Sharks).
We also had 185 adults sign up, with 107 reading 5,890 hours and an average of 10 attending each program! The Body Balance Programs from the Pendleton County Extension Office were offered to educate ourselves about healthy lifestyles and environmental pollution. They also learned the Basics of Fly Fishing through our partnership with Kincaid Lake State Park and Northern Kentucky Fly Fishers.
Our Outreach programs at Kincaid Lake State Park were “out of this world”. The Bookmobile led some interactive reading fun before our programs that included Galaxy Slime, Tie Dye Pillowcases, and Water Games. Silly Safaris and our own Superhero Training Camp kept us entertained at the Butler Community Center, and we also joined the Feeding the Kids Program this year by offering lunches on Wednesday afternoons in July.
Thanks again for your support and for making our 2019 “A Universe of Stories” Summer Reading Program a great success!

Take a look at what the bookmobile has to offer. The Purpose of the Bookmobile is to make the library more accessible to the residents of Pendleton County who find it difficult or impossible to travel to the library.
Sensory Friendly Story Time begins at PCPL
PCPL is partnering with Speech/Language Therapy Services of Northern Kentucky to bring you “Sensory Friendly Story Time”. Come and join Ms. Kerensa at our new story time that is designed to provide opportunities for children with special needs. It allows for children with special needs to participate at their level, with attending to a story (either sitting, standing, etc.), and expressing their own creativity with adaptive crafts. Come and join us on the first and third Tuesday of the month, beginning April 16th, from 11:00 – 11:45 am. We look forward to seeing you.
