Thank you for supporting the Pendleton County Public Library’s Summer Reading program!! It is wonderful to watch our community get so excited about reading and all of the programs and prizes you helped us offer!
This year, 245 kids (age birth – 5th grade) signed up to participate. These kids read for 1,344 hours this summer! On average, 98 kids, parents, and caregivers attended weekly programs (including the Living Arts and Science Center Planetarium and On the Move Art Studio) focusing around the theme “A Universe of Stories.”
We had 95 teens (grades 6th – 12th) sign up to participate. They read for a total of 744 hours! These teens participated in programs that unleashed their creativity (including Space Crafts and Planet Building) and expanded their minds (including a presentation with the Newport Aquarium Sharks).
We also had 185 adults sign up, with 107 reading 5,890 hours and an average of 10 attending each program! The Body Balance Programs from the Pendleton County Extension Office were offered to educate ourselves about healthy lifestyles and environmental pollution. They also learned the Basics of Fly Fishing through our partnership with Kincaid Lake State Park and Northern Kentucky Fly Fishers.
Our Outreach programs at Kincaid Lake State Park were “out of this world”. The Bookmobile led some interactive reading fun before our programs that included Galaxy Slime, Tie Dye Pillowcases, and Water Games. Silly Safaris and our own Superhero Training Camp kept us entertained at the Butler Community Center, and we also joined the Feeding the Kids Program this year by offering lunches on Wednesday afternoons in July.
Thanks again for your support and for making our 2019 “A Universe of Stories” Summer Reading Program a great success!
